Petition Letter

Petition Letter: This letter is an appeal to drop the course Pols 212 Winter 2017.

The reason for needing to drop this course is because I already attempted to drop said course and there was system error on Solus that I was unaware of. In February I planned on dropping the course as I felt I would not be able to preform as well as I need to and with my GPA being important it was a major decision. During this time, I went onto Solus where I proceeded to drop the course. At the time I thought that it allowed me to drop and that I was no longer enrolled in the course. After this I went on with my studies in my other classes and did no work on Pols 212 assignments as I was under the impression that I was no longer in the course. Once I realised that the course was still on my schedule I tried to drop it but it was past the drop deadline. I then went to an academic advisor where they confirmed that there was a system error and that the course was not dropped and I was still enrolled in it. They looked online and gave me documentation showing that I tried to drop the course and that there was a problem with the system. Due to me not thinking I was in the course I have done none of the work from the time that I believed I had dropped the course which was in February until now (March). Unfortunately, that is when most of the weight of the class has happened so I am appealing to drop because if not I will not be able to get a grade I am happy with and will possibly not even be able to pass. This would be a major blow to me personally and academically. With all the information that I have missed it will be next to impossible to have success in the rest of the course and that is why it is extremely important that I drop it as I feel I could not control the systems error and I did take the steps to drop the course during the appropriate time.

If my appeal is granted and I am able to drop the course I will not only be extremely grateful but will also take all the steps necessary to make sure nothing like this ever happens again. I have never had a problem like this before and I believe that this along with me being rather new at dropping courses contributed to me not noticing the error. So in the future when I have decided to drop a course I will look to make sure multiple times that it is indeed dropped and will do it with an academic advisor present so that there is no chance that an error will occur and so that a situation like will never happen again. The reason for dropping was because I did not feel I could succeed in the course and as success in my academics is very important to me I will be on top all my courses knowing that errors happen and being ready to combat them in a timely manner. I will also try to sort my course load better so that dropping is a last resort. This class will affect my GPA greatly so dropping it is integral to my success at this school and I hope that my appeal is granted. As I move forward as a Queens student I continue to learn and without a doubt will not forget about this incident and will do everything in power to stop something like this from happening again.
