Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Studies), I am writing to request you to waive the 21-day appeal deadline due to medical reasons.
During late summer of 2015, I was clinically diagnosed with OSFED and was undergoing medical treatment to manage this condition. My treatment comprised of a combination of medication, outpatient treatment through the Hotel Dieu Hospital and support through my family doctor. After a rough 2015 Fall and 2016 Winter Term, I was still suffering from many symptoms associated with my medical condition and as such I was unable to focus on submitting an appeal for my academic standing or late drop out for the courses of ANAT 101, BIOL 331, PHIL 201, and STAT 263 within the deadline stated. My primary focus was to regain control of my life and to overcome the mental and physical symptoms associated with the disease.
At the beginning of the fall term of 2016, when I was first admitted, up until the end of Winter 2016 my OSFED symptoms were very much still relevant and impacting my life. I worked to reframe my mindset during summer of 2016 to be sure my medical condition did not impact my grades for the upcoming fourth year at Queen's University. Luckily, through familial and medical support I was able to overcome many of the disabling aspects of OSFED which is clearly demonstrated by the difference in my Fall 2015 and Winter 2016 grades versus my 2016 Fall and winter 2017 grades, The healing time with my family to self-reflect was definitely effective, as I have been able to refocus on my studies and not let OSFED have such a detrimental impact on my life.
I am hoping you will approve my request to waive the 21-day appeal deadline to attest the need of recognizing my main appeal where I have explained my reasoning behind my poor academic standing during my third year here at Queen's University. This includes factors such as the emotional impact of attending HDH's ED Clinic, suffering from the symptoms associated with OSFED i.e. depression, and the related medications I was on. I do not believe the marks I received in the courses mentioned have accurately reflected my efforts here at Queen's or the academic ability I truly have - reflective in my most recent Fall 2016 grades, and I am hoping to appeal them. I have tried my hardest to get my life back on the right track after suffering from OSFED and am still working hard to get my GPA closer to a goal that better represents me. I feel like my grades are more accurately reflecting my academic potential, and with this appeal, other schools and work opportunities will be able to more accurately see my potential as well.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my request to waive the deadline, and hopefully, with the information at hand - including medical documentation to verify my time at HDH and the medication I was on during the Fall 2016-Winter 2016 Term, and my most recent academic grades - you will take the time to consider my main appeal to request the late drop of ANAT 101 and appeal for the credit standing in STAT 263, BIOL 331 and PHIL 201.
