Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

I hope you are doing well. The reason why I am submitting an appeal is to request for permission to drop the course ECON 232. For my applied economics degree, I am required to take two economics history courses and I took this course as one of the options. However, the reason why I am requesting to drop this course is due to interference from illness and the resulting missed deadlines.

I have frequent chronic migraines that occur randomly and this condition often prevents me from being in a condition to be out of bed for at least half a day. I have missed the midterm that is worth 20 of the final grade earlier on in the semester due to this. I was unable to acquire a medical note from when I visited the local clinic and my family doctor over reading week afterwards because I was told that I needed to on site during the occurrence of my illness for them to be able to write a formal academic note for a permitted absence. I have contacted my instructor prior to the examination that I was too ill to take the test as well as afterwards to inform him of my unavailability to provide a medical note. Hence he was unable to excuse me for my absence, but he had told me that he would take this situation into consideration when deciding upon my final grade.

I have decided to continue taking this course but recently the migraines have been occurring much too frequently and I have missed the deadline for my term paper by a few days, which is worth 35 of the final grade. Although the late penalty is not too severe, after taking this into consideration and the 20 that I have already possibly lost, I have decided to request for a drop in this course

If required, I can also provide a prescription of the medication I take when a migraine occurs.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Christina Kim
