Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear whomever this may concern,
I am appealing to request aegrotat standing in my winter semester courses; BIOL206, BIOL202, PSYC215, and COGS201. Due to extenuating circumstances, my attendance and participation have been minimal. Debilitating depression and anxiety have withheld me from attending the vast majority of my lectures since reading week. I am therefore greatly concerned moving forward into exams, considering the difficulties I¿¿ve had absorbing the material to this point.
This past semester I have dealt with severe mental health issues, specifically anxiety, depression, and ADD. These issues began to escalate nearing the end of second semester of my first year at Queens. There are two major sources of stress that I have found extremely difficult to handle; a constant and growing worry for my academic standing, and a hostile home environment. I started seeing Dr.Wilkinson at Queens Student Health center at the beginning of the New Year regarding my growing mental health concerns. I have committed my time to several following appointments and meetings with Dr. Wilkinson, Dr. Obrien, as well as counselling services and accessibility services at the Queens Student Health center.
I quickly isolated myself in response to a negative situation with my housemates. At the beginning of this semester, a house meeting was called to inform me that my dog was no longer welcomed to live in the house. I initially was understanding and accepting of the concern, but the situation rapidly escalated to revolve around personal issues between individual housemates, nothing about my dog. As a result of the manifested negativity and drama, four out of the five housemates have elected not to resign the lease for the next term. The antagonist is the sole remaining tenant.
I felt that my dog and I had the same right to live there as the other tenants did/do. I failed to maintain mental stability in the tense environment, and eventually became very depressed. I began to only attend mandatory tutorials and compete associated assignments, but I stopped attending my lectures around week 4-5. The few and far between that I did attend, I was unable to maintain neither stable attention nor concentration. I did not learn during lecture and I was unmotivated to study and too uncomfortable to concentrate on myself at home.
I am therefore writing to request aegrotat standing in all four of the classes I was enrolled in this semester. I am confident that my standing in BIOL202, BIOL206, and PSYC215 fulfills the requirements for students eligible for aegrotat standing. I believe my work in COGS201 may not be sufficient, in which case I desire to drop this course.
Thank you for your consideration,
Danielle Chapman
