Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Hello,

I wish to drop the courses ECON 212 and ECON 222. I received permission for an incomplete grade due to extenuating circumstances regarding my mental health and substance abuse problem. Unfortunately I am not able to write the deferred exams at this time and wish to drop the courses and retake them next year in order to effectively learn the material and pass the courses. I have been living with my parents in Toronto during the Winter semester of 2017 in order to focus on my recovery and undergo treatment via CAMH. I have been taking online courses via Queen's distance studies and have gotten straight As on the course work thus far, this semester. I have been sober since November 24th, 2016 but I am still getting my life back on track and being able to drop these courses will allow me to continue my studies this fall. I was placed on academic probation last year as a result of my substance abuse preventing me from completing my academic duties. However I have been able to effectively complete my academic tasks this semester while I am sober and implementing strategies to combat negative habits. I have attached screenshots of my current grades to demonstrate that I am able to complete my academic duties. Unfortunately I just can't catch up on the work I missed in ECON 212 and 22 last semester and write those exams at this time.
