Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I was in a car accident when returning home to visit my family, and have been diagnosed with a concussion by both Queen's Health Services and KGH Emergency Room. I was seen by doctors from Kingston General Hospital, and received a CT scan and a EKG. KGH advised me to refrain from all course work until I am recovered. Queens' Health Services has assessed that my concussion is severe and I am completely incapacitated as regards functioning at an academic level from March 25th, 2107 to June 30th, 2017. I have been suffering from noise and light sensitivity which make it impossible for me to use screens, such as my laptop, as well as be in public spaces. I attended classes after being diagnosed and found it extremely painful to sit in lecture. I am having difficultly with short term memory, concentration, information recall, and the processing of information. Doctor Anna Klein from Queen's Health Services has issued a verification of illness form to me, based on a functional impairments and limitations assessment.
I have a learning disability which requires me to write exams on a computer in Gordon Hall, and gives me additional time. I will not be able to write my exam for this course as I cannot engage in course work, nor can I look at a screen for that length of time. I would find it excruciatingly painful and extremely harmful to my recovery.
Additionally, I have met with advisor from Queens Student Accessibility Services, Bonney Hunt, who is aware of my condition. She has been helping me process the information I need to create my claims, and breaking it down into manageable chunks with my condition.
