Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

I am appealing to waive the requirement to appeal within 21 days due to serious extenuating circumstances.

Throughout the entire duration of the 2011/2012 academic year, I was experiencing a major depressive episode. As a consequence, my transcript is littered with Fs. I am writing to you to hoping that you will decide consider the accompanying appeal letter in which I request that all grades from the 2011/2012 academic year be dropped.

I missed the appeal deadline because it is only very recently that I've been correctly diagnosed as a manic-depressive. Impaired judgement combined with material circumstances in large part account for my late appeal. In my undiagnosed and un-medicated state, I was improvident, particularly during the academic year in question (having lost my work-study position even), and had no choice but to spend a year away from school in order to make the money that I needed to resume studies, let alone file an appeal.

At present, I am taking medication, as carefully prescribed by a well-trained psychiatrist, and regularly seeing a counsellor at La Salle. I am also making use of community resources, e.g. Frontenac Community Mental Health & Addiction services (FCMHAS) and Kingston AA. I am now fully equipped to be the high-achieving student that I can and will be moving forward.

I will be eternally grateful if the appeal deadline is waived given the extenuating circumstances outlined above.
