Dear Dr. Bénard,

My name is Nikki Pereira (Student Number: 10177032), I am writing to appeal for Aegroat standing as extenuating circumstances prevented me from writing me DEVS 240 exam.

On the week of April 3rd, 2017, I had what seemed to be a common cold, by the end of the week Friday April 7th, my symptoms became increasingly worse. Very high fever (102 degrees) aches, chills, severe cough, chest pains, and difficulty breathing. The morning of Saturday, April 8th, I was extremely weak and all alone, I called my parents at home, which is in Bermuda, and luckily my mother managed flights and arrived by 10:00PM that same evening. We went straight to the Kingston hospital, where I was put on an IV for fluids and given steroids, nebulizers, Tamiflu, and Ventolin. The hospital's initial diagnosis was influenza. We drove to our home in Montreal the next day, so that I could rest. However, the meds they prescribed at the hospital provided no relief and my symptoms got progressively worse with high fever, intense chest pains, painful cough. We went to the Westmount Medical clinic first thing the next morning, where the Doctor immediately ordered chest and sinus X-rays.

Doctor Van Dyuse, on April 10, 2017, confirmed that I had pneumonia, the report is attached in the documentation. On account of my illness, the doctor instructed I take two weeks off of school/schoolwork.

My father and mother's primary domicile is in Bermuda, where they are both employed, and where I reside with them in the summer. Although my mother came up to help me at my time in need, she was unable to stay for an extended period of time because of her job. The decision was made for me to go home to Bermuda to be cared for by my parents because there was no one in Canada to look after me, as I could not care for myself.

As you are aware, my mother immediately reached out to all my professors regarding my physical situation, and everyone was extremely understanding and accommodating. All my other subjects are in good standing. I wrote my Law exam at Bermuda College, which was proctored. The others were take home, and one online.

Hence, due to these extenuating circumstances, it was impossible for me to complete any school work, and prepare for exams. I could not stay behind alone and be left to manage for myself and travel home alone. I would prefer to not have to write this exam in September as I will be busy with my job internship this summer and all my new subjects, and I feel I will not do as well.

For these reasons, I am respectfully appealing for an Aegrotat standing for my grade. It was though Professor Epprecht's suggestion and support that I submit this appeal, as I meet all the criteria.

I have attached all relevant documents for your reference.
