Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Throughout this academic year I have been under tremendous stress. Due to personal circumstances I have had to work two jobs along side being a full time student. Because of this and other personal, social and family problems my mental health had gotten worse. I started speaking to Queen's Student Wellness counselors and therapists since October 2016 and I have been circulated and referred to over 3 counselors, 3 psychiatrists and K3C counselling. During this time, I saw no improvements and my mental health worsened. I was barely eating and could not find the motivation to get out of bed. I am normally a very academically driven student and always have tried to do my best. However, my mental health issues have been a constant battle that challenges and drains me beyond my limits. In winter term I started ARTF228 and received an accommodation for an oil painting allergy to do the course in acrylic. The professor although supportive of me was very harsh on my performance. I worked tirelessly every day to fix the criticism that she told me for my artwork until the term was completed. Although my professor was a nice person, her treatment towards my art and ability made me feel even more mentally hurt because her critiques were very harsh and not very supportive like this is this s. I was barely sleeping and eating to compensate for my academic, jobs and personal wellness development and overall felt like I was deteriorating mentally and physically more and more every day. Since my mental illness was getting worse and I started an intensive treatment program at Hotel Dieu where a big physical, mental and emotional devotion to recovery may have unfortunately interfered with my performance in the course despite me doing the best I could to balance and complete all of my duties. I would really appreciate this academic appeal being approved because I strive to do my best not only in my academics but, also in my personal life. Because of this, unfortunately my grade in ARTF228 may have been affected because of my recovery process and I would be extremely grateful.
