Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear the Associate Dean,

My name is Hilda Hye Won Kim, and my student number is 10091390. I am writing this appeal letter to ask whether it would be possible to receive an aegrotat standing in one of the courses I took this past WINTER 2017 term, IDIS 302, taught by Professor Audrey Kobayashi.

Starting from the Fall 2016 term, I had experienced difficulty with keeping up with my courses. At the time, I was personally struggling with an unhealthy relationship, which had caused me to struggle mentally. Ultimately, this lead to issues with my health, including difficulty digesting and sleeping, which severely affected my ability to complete my course work. I have struggled with sleep from the beginning of my first year in University. My physical health and the emotional abuse from the past relationship had a greater affect on me than I had realized at the time.

Once this relationship had come to an end, I began to seek help with an education counsellor, Sarah, because I am in the Concurrent Education program, and had met with Sarah in previous years to help deal with my anxiety as well as low self-esteem. This was near the middle-end of the Winter 2017 term. Sarah then helped me through counselling, and also guided me to seek help from LaSalle. There, I was prescribed with medication to help improve my physical health, this included medication for my skin rash, irritable bowel syndrome, and also medication to help me fall asleep. I also went to an academic counsellor, Lori Kilminster, who helped me get in contact with my professors and allow me to catch up with some of my course work.

This progressed to further dialogue with my professors, and what my next steps were to be. For one of my courses, IDIS 302, it was agreed upon that an aegrotat standing would be best.

These were the situations that had caused me to be in the place that I am today. Thank you for your time, and I hope you will take these things into consideration.

Sincerely,
Hilda Hye Won Kim
