Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Studies),
I am writing this letter to appeal dropping English 244 (Spring), English 290 (Spring), and Genders 215 (Spring).
This past year at Queen¿¿s I tried my hardest to get my marks up and to get my health in order, as my first year I also found myself having some academic difficulties. Unfortunately, being Type 1 Diabetic, my sugars were still too high for me to properly focus, and I also faced the added challenge of being put onto medication for depression and anxiety. Living with these conditions everyday made it extremely difficult for me to work to my full potential, and I ended up not passing 3 out of my 4 courses second term. As a hardworking and determined individual, seeing these marks were really hard since I had no idea I was going to fail these courses and it really discouraged me knowing that it was because of my illness that I wasn¿¿t able to be successful this year. With that being said, I have found success in my personal life, as this summer already I feel that my health is more stable and I see a brighter future for next year.
My request is that my English 244 (Spring), English 290 (Spring), and Genders 215 (Spring) marks be dropped.
After speaking to an academic advisor, I have decided that the best plan going forward will be to take an extra year to complete my degree, allowing myself to take one less course per semester. By doing this, I will have more time to manage my health alongside my academics without becoming overwhelmed.
By putting more time and focus into my health, I believe I will be able to find a better balance, and I won¿¿t be faced with another situation where I am not able to live up to my full potential in either my academic life or with my health.
As these are conditions that are being followed my physicians, I will be able to provide documents with my medical history from the past year if needed.
Thank you,
Sage Mills
