Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To Whom It Concerns,
I am sending an email regarding the current hold on my solus - the requirement to withdraw for a year. I wish to appeal this decision based upon my current academic standing and extenuating circumstance(s). OR to extend the date at which you process this decision. If that is not possible, even dropping my BIO 102 grade from summer term of 2015 in ensure my GPA is where it should be. Since I am enrolled in 2 summer courses (PSYC 100 and BIO 102) they will either replace a fail or replace a lower grade. This in turn, will without a doubt increase my GPA to Queen's set standard. Currently, I am sitting at a 1.52 GPA when it should be a 1.60 or higher. I have worked extensively to not fail any courses and to get my grades to where they can and will be. Unfortunately, I have struggled on and off with on going mental illness. From hospitalization to extensive psychotherapy back to hospitalization, it's been a rough process to not only work through mental illness, trauma and everyday life but to also work on my academics as well. This year I have worked with doctors to find medication that can stabilize my condition(s) - constantly changing medication every 4-6 weeks is debilitating when experiencing adverse side effects. Despite all of this, I have managed to bring my GPA up from an extremely low 0.70 to the current 1.52, which I know just looking at it seems inadequate, but there has been not only failure but growth- academically and mentally as well. I have changed my aspirations and passion, currently I am retaking PSYC 100 this summer to increase my grade, currently I am sitting at an A in the class, with hopes to get my undergrad degree in Psychology. If I am able to come back in the fall, I have already chosen my courses on SOLUS to replace any remaining F's and to take the courses I need to pursue my goals and aspirations while getting my grades to where I know they can be. I worked hard to get into Queen's and I am working a lot harder to stay here and prove I have the drive and intellect to raise my GPA. Currently, Queen's is all I have, it keeps me striving and thriving. With all this said, I appreciate you taking the time to read this and considering altering your decision. I want this to be the last time I write an appeal like this, or any appeals at all. I have worked too hard to have it go to waste. Along with this appeal I have provided some personal information with my documentation, just to give more insight to everything.
Thank you again for your time and consideration,
Kindest Regards,
Kayla Bourdeau

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: As written above, my academic plan has changed substantially throughout the past few years of being here at Queen's. I have changed the degree I want to receive from life sciences to a major Psychology. On solus, I have pre planned which Psychology courses I would like to take and extra courses to improve my grades and get the degree I so adamantly want. Along with this,I plan to retake Math 121 next year - if the require to withdraw for a year is waived. I am planning on working with the professor of that class to ensure the grade I come out with is not an F. I plan on retaking any courses that are not up to my standards and as well as Queen's standards. I have talked with academic advisors, especially Spring, who aided me in my academic plans and as well as this appeal. I have nothing but pure joy and hope to be able to take the courses I would like in the upcoming fall term.
