Petition Letter: Good day Associate Dean of Studies,
I am writing to request an appeal for my academic suspension. Within the last year, and fifteen years preceding, I struggled with addiction. My father passed in December, and I did not grieve properly. In early March, I had issues with my eye that held me back from continuing my studies, and facilitated self-justification to continue to use. On June 6th, I completed a six-week rehabilitation program at CHRC (Canadian Health and Recovery Center). Today I have clarity, perspective, and a better understanding of myself, and the circumstances that have contributed to my life as it has unfolded. I have acquired the tools to keep myself clean and sober.
I respectfully request that I may continue with my studies at Queens, and be given an opportunity to prove to myself, and to the faculty, that I am worth the time and effort that has already been afforded to me. My GPA understandably falls short of the requirements of a good academic standing. However, with my mind clear I am ready to reengage my studies, and perform to the best of my ability. I can forward any documentation you require to verify these circumstances.
Thank you for your time,
Girish Maharaj

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: I will be reducing the course load that I have to two or three courses. In order to maintain a proper schedule, my wife has altered her work schedule from midnights to days and afternoons. This will help with scheduling time for my two children, and ample time for studying and preparing submissions for courses. Continuing with after-care from CHRC, regular meetings with a Psychotherapist, and a strengthened social support network will keep my mind in optimal form to perform in my studies. In order to stay sober and on track these measures will ensure success in both school and home life.
