Petition Letter

Petition Letter: My name is Brad Inniss with student number 10143739 and I am writing you this letter as my appeal to waive the requesting of my withdrawal from Queen¿¿s University for one year. I have carefully read over the requirements to ask for an appeal and I believe in my case there are extenuating circumstances. In this letter I will discuss what occurred with my family and myself personally that effected my academic performance at school this past year. My hope is that this letter will show that I deserve a chance to go back to Queen¿¿s this fall and continue to work towards the end goal of being a Queen¿¿s grad.
My family and I over the past year have gone through a fair bit with my grandmother. We have been taking care of her as best as we can as she goes through a fight with reoccurring breast cancer and effects from her being a diabetic. Family is a very personal subject for myself and I prefer to keep anything family related to myself and then try and help as best as I can. The medial scares with my grandmother continue until this day as over the last week I have been with her in and out of the hospital over the past week, dealing with different medical situations. When at school I did my best to stay in contact as much as possible with my mother to know the condition she was in and to know if I needed to come home to help with anything. With the constant thought of wondering how my family was and what state they were in on my mind it was difficult to focus on school, when I felt that my family was not in a good place. In my mind family is everything and they come first, I feel that I need to be able to help whenever they need me.
Personally, I went through a difficult period of time with going through shoulder surgery and not playing football for a year. It was a difficult experience because it was something that I have not gone through before. Initially my thinking was that with being away from the sport I would have the chance to focus more on school while being able to work my way to playing football. I went on to learn that was not the case for myself. This being my first major surgery it was an exhausting process to go through all the different medication and rehab for my shoulder. The process had a huge toll on myself. It was difficult seeing all my other teammates making huge progressions with football and I was sitting far behind where they were and all I wanted to do was get back to where I was. Being tunnel versioned looking at it all now was the worst possible thing I could do to myself. I prevented myself from doing what needed to be done when it came to my studies. Being away from the game I love very so much I put myself in a hole that I am trying to dig myself out of and get back on track to where I should be.
About my program, I was in economic and if allowed to come back to Queen¿¿s I know and understand that I will switch my academics around to best suit myself and not force myself to go through an academic situation that is not fit for me. I felt that I loved the concepts that economics had to offer and how applicable it was to the real world. But I was not successful with working with and in the mathematics realm of things. I believed I tried to force myself to understand and I did not succeed with that so it will be time to start a new academic path towards success.
I have had time to reflect and take a step back to look at everything that is in front of me. I know what I have to do in order to get back on track. If I am allowed back to Queen¿¿s the first thing that will be taken care of is my academics. I will be switching out of economics and looking to other disciplines specifically either geography or health. Next I will ensure that I have all my resources in order to make sure I have the best chance of academic success. I will consult with academic and athletic advisor so they know always what is happening. Afterwards I will work towards getting back onto the football field and take all the necessary steps with my coaches to get back there.
Lastly, I hope that this all does come out to positive solution that being I can still be a student at Queen¿¿s University. I have a support athletics behind myself and they have been amazing to me throughout this whole process and show nothing but support. I want the chance to come back to Queen¿¿s and to earn a degree and graduate. My other dream at queens is to play football for the Gaels it is family that I was brought into and I will work as hard as I can to be back a part of. I understand the appeal process does take a fair bit of time and I understand that and will be waiting for a decision. I appreciate you for taking the time to hear what I have to say.

Thank you for your time,
Brad Inniss
