Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

I am appealing the late drop of my courses during the Winter Term of 2017(I am unable to recall or access the course codes.) I was unable to attend the courses and never attended one class due to extenuating circumstances around my mental health however I failed to notify the school within the appropriate time.

Two months prior to the beginning of the Winter Term I began to be affected by serious mental health concerns that have been recurring for a few years. These issues impacted multiple areas of my life culminating in the decision to push back my studies until Fall 2017. However because of the urgency of dealing with my health and getting in contact with mental health professionals the process of dropping my enrolled courses was overlooked. However I am happy to say that during this period I was able to receive psychiatric help at Homewood Health Centre in Guelph (documentation provided) and am feeling much more capable of pursuing my studies. I believe I will finally be able to put a dark chapter of my life behind me and pursue my passions.

In order to maintain my mental health and my commitment to my studies I will be taking a number of precautionary steps. Firstly my stay at Homewood provided me with a number of tools by which to prevent any further issues. In addition I will be having scheduled meetings with my counselor and will be attending group therapy sessions regularly. I am very excited to return to my studies with a renewed commitment.
