Petition Letter

Petition Letter: My name is Haaya Rizvi (10125309). I am writing this letter regarding my grades in my transcript. For the following courses that I have failed at (ENGL 100, HIST 214, PSYC 235, ARTH 250, PSYC 251 and DEVS 100) was due to unexpected circumstances. I got married in the Winter Term of 2015 and I was taking the course DEVS 100, PSYC 251 and PSYC 235. I was doing better in the Fall term of 2014 and was sure that I was also doing well in DEVS 100 which is a full term course. My in laws had promised that they would let me study after getting married but they did not fulfill the promise. Instead, they took my books away and hid them from me. My husband had left me with my in laws while he went to live in the UK. During this time my husband was very unsupportive and it was my mother in law imposing all her decisions on me. This resulted in failing the entire term which ruined my GPA. I begged my husband to call me to the UK and he finally agreed after some time around April/May of 2015. I was dealing with domestic violence and abuse during July of 2015 which went on until September 2015. I then decided to take courses in the Fall of 2015 but fell ill. I found out that I was pregnant in mid of October 2015. Even then my husband was burdening me with emotional, physical and verbal abuse as well as kicking me out of the house. Back then I had spoken to the academic advisor, David Yousef, but I had only mentioned about my difficult pregnancy and not about my marital issues. I was having to visit the doctor for some issues I was having physically. I also collapsed at the hospital twice before getting a checkup from my gynecologist in December of 2015 to which she told me that I needed a lot of rest and was feeling this way due to weakness and anxiety. For a whole year, I did not take any courses and was taking a break through my pregnancy. I delivered my son on June 20th, 2016. I was in Canada and my husband was in the UK. He did, however, come to Canada for my son's delivery. A few weeks later she returned to the UK but I came to know he had booked my tickets for Pakistan. I had already chosen my courses so I was worried about how I was going to manage things. I reached Pakistan in early October 2016 and I ordered my books for my courses ARTH 250 and ENGL 100A. I was already delaying my course work and as soon as I got my books I started my work. My mother in law had issues with me studying during the day because she wanted me to do her work and by night time I was exhausted but still managed to get some work done. They eventually took my books away and hid them from me again. I complained to my husband but he did not listen. I tried to use the notes on my course pages and did my best to finish my work. During the winter of 2017, my husband came to visit us in Pakistan and during this time I was taking the ENGL 100B and HIST 214. He went back to the UK after a couple of weeks and I told him I was coming also. He disagreed but I was having a hard time in Pakistan and told him I was not going to stay anymore no matter what he said. He finally agreed with me and called me and my son over to the UK. He gave me a hard time in the UK also. I told him I wanted to go back to Canada and he sent me here. I am now living with my mother for the time being until I finish my degree. I really want to finish my degree but many obstacles stopped me from doing so. The F grades on my transcript have left a negative impact on me and I really want to change this. I spoke to the student advisor, David Yousef, who guided me. I request you to please have these grades dropped from my transcript as I now want to start classes in Fall 2017 with a new beginning. I would really appreciate your help and hope my letter explained my situation clearly. I have attached my doctor's letter from January 2016 to help explain some of my circumstances at the time. If you would like additional information you can contact me at (647)-402-0647 or email at haaya_786@hotmail.com. I would really appreciate your help at this time.

Kind regards,
Haaya Rizvi (10125309)

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: After going through some difficult times I have decided to finally move to Canada in order to achieve better academic success. I did realize that my academics were failing to success due to the lack of a chaotic environment. I am now residing in Canada and have supportive and helpful people. I plan on focusing on my courses and often visiting the library for a calm atmosphere to help me concentrate on my work. I have people here to watch my son if I ever have to visit on campus at Queens University. I am making sure to take the courses I want and need in Fall of 2017 and work to my full potential. I requested my fail grades (DEVS 100, ENGL 100, HIST 214, PSYC 235, ARTH 250 and PSYC 251) to be removed from my transcript so I can achieve a better GPA for my degree. I will be taking a lighter course load to help me balance my daily schedule and to work on each course properly. My mother is very helpful and has taken responsibility of taking care of my son while I study. I know that I am in a good environment to work in and I will not waste any more time. I want to achieve my goals while I am here and I am sure I will be able to do so.

Kind regards,
Haaya Rizvi (10125309)
