Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Studies),
I am appealing to extend my withdrawal date from classes for Fall of 2016/2017. I withdrew from classes on October 1st, 2016, following an episode of mental illness that brought me to the ER at the beginning of September. By October I was working with a doctor in Kingston to find a medication to help me, and participated in the hospital's ITTP program, but unfortunately a marital crisis occurred on September 30th that overwhelmed my resources. I discovered my husband's unfaithfulness at a time when he was the only person I knew in Ontario.
This was only a few days after the final withdrawal date for classes.
I suffered from trauma throughout the month of October, which culminated in a suicide attempt at the beginning of November. Fortunately, my family supported my move back to Manitoba, where I have since remained. I was unable to support myself or function normally for a period of 5 months. I have since begun working but remain in debt due to the costs of an ambulance, moving provinces, and student loans.
I ask that my withdrawal date/one-term deadline be waived so that I may make a financial appeal to waive the tuition that I was unable to benefit from. My circumstances were very much out of my control and crippled my ability to function as a student.
Thank you very much for your time and understanding.
Sincerely,
April Neufeld
