Appeal for Student 10090815: Ryerson Smylie
I am writing to appeal to have my courses dropped from the Winter 2017 semester. These include STAT 263 and CHEM 223 and CHEM 222 and CLST 103.
I began the Biochemistry program in the Fall of 2013, but unfortunately in the my second year (Winter 2015) suffered from a significant psychological event that greatly affected my academic performance. (this documentation is on file at Queen¿¿s). I was advised to appeal to have my courses dropped for Winter 2015 . I took a year off received some psychological support and tried to return to Queens in Biochemistry in the Fall of 2016. Once again, I was faced similar challenges both motivational and organizational and I failed my Fall semester. As a result, I did not return to Queens in the Winter of 2017 to attend the above mentioned classes, but did not formally drop these courses.
I am currently in the midst of an assessment (see documentation) to more accurately assess the factors affecting my post-secondary academic performance. More specifically, I am undergoing an assessment for ADHD with the final part of the assessment to occur at the beginning of October. It appears my past academic and organizational challenges are directly related to this condition.
I am hopeful that with a more accurate diagnosis as to the underlying causes that have so greatly affected my academic performance, I can get the support, coaching and accommodation that may help me obtain success in the post-secondary environment.
Thank you for your time,
Ryerson Smylie
