Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern:
As you know, my time at Queen¿¿s was plagued by some extremely serious and well documented post-concussion syndrome. Furthermore, It is evident that there are ongoing difficulties in the specific area of Organic Chemistry. Considering my condition and circumstance, I am appealing my grade in CHEM 285. I am requesting that my grade is changed to a ¿late drop¿¿.
I am seeking this change to 'late drop' because approximately one week before the exam it became evident that there was no way I could complete this course. I was impaired both physically and mentally, and this was observed by multiple people from Arts and Science, Student Accessibility, and Life Sciences. I was advised to stop attempting to make progression in CHEM 285 because people were gravely concerned for my well-being. As mentioned previously, I was dealing with both physical and mental health issues at the time of the course. Physically, I could not conceptualize the material in Organic Chemistry despite maximal effort. These events were documented by Dr. O¿¿Connor who I have seen many times. Mentally, I slipped into a very dark state a depression, this induced by my fears of not being able to begin graduate studies, this leading me to see three different professionals from Student Health (Counselling). The combination of both the physical and mental health issue was out of my control and despite every possible attempt to complete the course it was evident that I could not, this leading me to not writing the exam.
In moving forward, I ask that you, please change this ¿F¿¿ to a ¿late drop¿¿ because that is more indicative of the scenario. I could not and did not complete the exam, and having an ¿F¿¿ on my transcript is not an accurate representation of the situation. Furthermore, I am happy to tell you that a solution has been reached concerning my specific impairments in Organic Chemistry and I am now feeling much better and beginning graduate studies.
