Dear Dr. Johanne Bérnard,

I am appealing to drop Econ222 (2016 Fall), Econ290 (2016 Fall) and Econ212 (2017 Winter). As well as appealing to change my Math126 (2016-2017) and Psych235 (2016-2017) to a credit standing.

Due to extenuating circumstances my second year was a very difficult one for me to succeed academically. Unfortunately in the summer of 2016 my Grandfather passed away. The memorial was held in the fall of 2016 in Arizona which I missed a week of school for. After the memorial the whole death took a much larger toll on me mentally and returning back to school in just a few short days was extremely stressful. During the fall, focusing or even attending classes became hard as I was emotionally unstable and often stayed home if I wasn¿¿t able to stop crying. The workload began to pile up and I found that I was often playing catch-up in my classes, which are all listed above. Not only was my emotional state a contribution but also my lack of passion of economics, this year I have switched to geology which is a study I am extremely interested in. Econ grew even harder to understand as I slowly became less interested. Macroeconomics (Econ222) was incredibly hard to focus in, as I still was recovering from my grandfathers passing, as well as a complete inability to enjoy learning. I love to learn and this put me in a darker place mentally as I was only able to watch my grades get out of hand. I missed many calculus and psychology classes first semester because of the circumstances and second semester as hard as I tried, was only able to achieve D- in both. During this year I spoke a lot with my family and friends, I was able to confide in them and look to them when I was feeling most unlike myself. They provided a wonderful support system which helped me greatly to start this year with the proper mindset and emotional stability.

This year I have gone in a new direction into Geology as mentioned above. I am incredibly excited to involve my passion with learning and know that I can do well. I¿¿ve spoken with academic advisors with which courses to take in order to excel and reach my academic goals. I have also found study habits that work best for myself. Last year and the summer was hard, however I have learned to deal with the grief from my Grandpa¿¿s passing. I rely on my support system every day and they never fail to help me in trying times. This appeal would give me the ability to start fresh in a new program and put those failures behind myself. I know I am capable of so much more than this, and really want to succeed.

I will be receiving a letter from my mother shortly along with the invitation to his memorial. They both will be forwarded as soon as possible, in the next couple days.
