Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Transitioning into University has been something very difficult for me and has taken a toll on my mental health. Before attending Queens early this month I knew that the transition would be difficult but that with the support of my family and friends I would be able to get through it. To my family and my surprise this has not been the case. Before coming to Queens I knew that I had anxiety but not to the extent that I have been feeling in the last three weeks. I have not been able to sleep at night, I have had a very hard time getting out of bed for my 8:30 classes and I go home every weekend as I am unable to stay here for longer than my class schedule. At this time it has not yet distracted me from completing my work but I know that this will not last much longer as it gets harder and harder for me to leave home on Monday night and return back to campus. As hard of a time as it has been I know that my academics need to come first and in order to continue getting my degree and completing first year I would like to transfer my classes from in class to online in order to get my credits but be comfortable in the space I am learning in. The opportunity to do this from my home is something I did not know I would have to consider but at this time my family and I believe that it is the best option for me in order to be successful in my first year of University.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: My academic plan on continuing to take courses online is simple to me, in high school half of my courses were completed online so I am very familiar and comfortable with not just the layout but being independent to complete all of the assigned work and readings. I have decided that I am going to take 24 units instead of 30 to lighten the course load which will help because I will have 4 courses at a time instead of 5, As well as taking only 4 per term 3/5 courses I am already enrolled in and will have a seamless transfer to online as they are the same course both in class and online. I have decided to continue with online learning because I know that I am not ready to commit to being away from home for the extensive period of time you need to while attending the Queens campus and that proceeding online is a positive alternative. With the support of my family I know that I will be successful in my first year and I am confident that transferring to online will add to that success.
