Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am submitting this appeal in regards to dropping two courses. My first appeal for waiving the 21 Day deadline has been granted.

The exentuating circumstances of my appeal are as follows:
I began my studies as an Applied Economics student, however as my desires changed and my career through Queen's progressed I chose to change my degree to the shorter, more concise General Economics degree. In this time, errors and inefficiency of the Queen's Administration chain cost my family and I an unacceptable amount of money and time. I was misadvised into taking classes multiple times that were not required for me to graduate with my General ECON degree through in-person meetings and phone meetings. Now, I am in a scenario where I must return to Queen's for a 5th year to complete my 3 year program, after taking a year off from attending Queen's due to health and financial reasons.

I was misadvised that I was required to take ECON 255 Mathematical Economics, which I was told was mandatory for my degree. I was also misadvised that I was required to take ECON 250, which I took twice as well and completed, however as I passed the course I was told that I wouldn't be able to appeal to drop it since I completed it.

These courses were not required as I passed ECON 250 on my first attempt (I was told to retake it to obtain a necessary C) and 255 was altogether not required at all even though I took the course twice.

. I have spoken to the Assistant Dean (Studies) Sue Blake on the matter and she has given me the following suggestions:

- Although I was misadvised on ECON 250, since I completed the course at both attempts I am unable to drop it.
-Thus, I should make my appeal for the attempts I made at ECON 255 instead, since both of my attempts were unsuccessful.

Additional Details Regarding Meetings:

- During my 2nd year at Queens, I had multiple in-person meetings with the Economics Dept., where I made it quite clear that I wanted to pursue the General ECON degree and was no longer interested in an Applied Economics degree.
- I also had advisement appointments with Arts and Sciences through phone during the summer after 2nd year during my days at work.
- Even with all of these meetings, I was still mislead, misguided, and misinformed to take/retake the above classes.

Although I don't believe anyone was purposefully misleading me, the carelessness, width, and inefficiency of the Queen's Administration have cost my family and myself time and money. I could be two more credits ahead and much closer to my graduation date than now.
