This appeal is regarding my request to waive my requirement to withdraw from Queen¿¿s University for one academic year, as well as to request dropping MATH121, Psych100 and ECON 110/111 after the academic deadline and request one credit standing in POLS110.
During my first year at Queen¿¿s University I struggled greatly transitioning from small class sizes and interactive lessons to massive halls and lecture style classes. I found I could only keep my attention in lectures for short periods of time, and what I could keep my attention on, I had trouble retaining. I lacked appropriate coping mechanisms to keep a level of organization in my assignments and readings, and often led to things being left to the last minute. Struggles early on in the year led to a disbelief in my abilities and a lack of motivation on my part.
After the school year ended I began to seek help and testing for ADD/ ADHD, I currently take a medication (please refer to medical documentation provided in appeal of 21-day deadline) that helps keep me focused and at bay, limiting my impulsiveness and creating fewer distractions for myself. I am currently completing a Psycho Educational Assessment, and have been diagnosed with Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (Please refer to new documentation) and continue to test for a possible co-occurring learning disability. Throughout this continued testing I will learn my strengths and weaknesses, as well as appropriate ways to cope with those weaknesses. Upon the completion of this assessment at the end of October a full report will be submitted to Queen¿¿s accessibility services to review for appropriate accommodations.
