To whom it may concern,
My name is Kirusika Thanabalasinham and the reason for my appeal is to request an aegrotat standing for my CISC 220 course and an extension for my CISC 260 exam that I was unable to write during the academic year. As previously noted in my last appeal my health condition has been preventing me from writing my exams and completing the two courses. The academic year was quite tough for me due to my health condition and unexplained medical issues at the time which has lead to my poor performance. Apart from my diagnosis in December I normally go through terrible chronic abdominal pains. All of them combined had made it really tough for me to focus and perform to my absolute potential. For CISC 220 I was only able to complete 4 out of 6 assignments. Due to my medical issue I had emailed the professor asking an extension for one of the assignments but was told that since it is best 5 out of 6, the one I do not submit will be the one that would not be counted towards the final grade. Although I did not feel my best during the quizzes I managed to write the first two. I however could not attend to write my third quiz on the scheduled date due to me feeling unwell. I contacted the professor and had asked to allow me to write it but I was not given an opportunity since it was marked best 2 out of 3. The third one I was not able to write was counted as zero. When it came to CISC 260 I did not email the professor asking for an extension on the assignments I was unable to submit on time due to my health as I feared she would not allow an extension due to the fact that it would be considered unfair for other students. I have previously taken these two courses and know the course content but due to circumstances I was unable to do my best. At the time it was constant visits to many different doctors for various reasons but only last December was when I got diagnosed. I however continued to seek medical help so that I can perform my best.
Unfortunately my health condition still have not stabilized. It is an ongoing issue and I am in touch with my doctor constantly to get me feeling better so I can perform daily tasks without much trouble. It has certainly been a trial and error situation for me. I start to feel better for few days and then it goes downward again stating that my medications are still not at the right dose. I have been constantly going back to my doctor to get this situation under control but sadly it is not something that can be fixed by rushing it in my case. My doctor however had referred me to a specialist so that they can take a close look at my condition. On my last visit to my current doctor I have gotten the documentation for submission. In 2-3 weeks time I will be going back to visit my doctor again to review test results. I however waited till now hoping I would be able to see the specialist for a better evaluation which I can include in my appeal. Unfortunately I have been notified that the appointment is going to be longer than expected as it has been scheduled and then rescheduled for early-mid December. Therefore I will be submitting the letter from my family doctor as part of my documentation. I have included the letter I received for my appointment with the specialist before the reschedule in my appeal aswell.
I really hope that you can consider my situation and are able to give me an aegrotat standing in CISC 220 considering my previous attempt and my constant effort, so I am able to pass the course. If that would not be possible I would like to be given a chance to write the exams for both courses so that I can graduate with atleast a general degree. I have spent many years here and have invested alot of money into these many years. I wish to come out of this situation with a degree. I have struggled due to these excruciating circumstances that have come my way year after year but I have never given up. I wish to complete my degree and move forward. I kindly ask for your support in letting me have the chance to write my exams when I am feeling much better, which I hope is in soon time.
Sincerely,
Kirusika Thanabalasinham
