Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: The purpose of this academic appeal is to drop PSYC 100 in Summer 2016 due to extenuating circumstances. My family had moved from Vancouver to Toronto in June 2016 for my husband's new job and we were also expecting to move into our new house in 2 months. Despite all logistics and moving affairs, I decided to enroll as an interest student at Queens with an end goal to complete a bachelor degree in Psychology. To ensure my success of the course, my husband has agreed that he will be caring of children so I have sufficient time to study especially given the course's Summer intensive structure; however, an unexpected event happened. My husband's grand-mother was sent to emergency and passed away in a hospital in Taiwan. My husband then booked an immediate flight to attend the funeral in Taiwan the next week. This happened about two weeks prior to my final exam and my husband is no longer able to take care of our children as planed. I was left with two small children who require complete attention during their summer break and trying to adopt to our new life in Toronto. I had tried my best to find small time slots every day to study but it turned out to be very difficult as my family was in deep sorrow and so busy with funeral affairs and I have two children to take care with. Due to the poor preparation, I failed the final exam and failed the course according to the university policy despite my successful completion of all course requirements such as course readings, assignments, quizzes, and class discussions. After a year of adjustment, I am glad to report that my family is fully settled and I can focus on my academic journey again. Please kindly consider my extenuating circumstances and I wish to drop PSYC 100 and re-enroll the program as an interested student at Queens. I really value this opportunity to be able to complete a bachelor degree program at Queens and I promise that I will try my best efforts to complete all course requirements and be a valuable contributor to the class.
