Petition Letter: December 18th 2017
Dear Dr. Jill Atkinson,

I am appealing to drop my grade for ECON111 (Fall, 2016) from my transcript.
Around the time I began my studies at Queen's University last year, significant issues regarding my mental health arose, specifically insomnia. During this period of time, it was a common occurrence for me to go days without sleeping. This resulted in numerous factors that affected my studies, including drowsiness, a major increase of anxiety, lack of focus, and most of all my attendance in labs and classes. The accumulation of these factors soon impeded my academic performance as I fell behind in my courses. Before the winter exam season in 2016, I made the decision to suspend my studies until this issue was resolved. After I had withdrawn, I sought help from my family doctor. Through different trials of prescription, change of diet, lifestyle, and varies other suggestions, I was able to properly manage my insomnia. Since returning to Queens, there has been a significant improvement in my academic performance, and I have had no issues with my studies. I currently have a lighter course load than last year, and I will gradually increase my academic commitments by taking more courses as time passes. In addition, I plan to use the summer term to keep up with my peers. If insomnia or other mental health issues become present again, I plan to immediately seek support from my family doctor and consult academic advisors. I aim to achieve a major in Mathematics, Physics, or possibly Applied Science in the future. Regardless of which program I plan to pursue, the grade I received in ECON111 will dramatically impact my cumulative GPA. I do not see this appeal as a fresh start, but rather an opportunity for my transcript to accurately reflect who I am as a student.

Thank you for your consideration,

Brandon Bedwell

Amendment to Appeal 4047

Petition Type: 2
ID: 4111
Submitted: January 11, 2018 at 12:25:33 AM
Relevant Petition: 4047
New Information: I am appealing to waive the 21-day deadline for appealing to drop courses after the deadline. In my other appeal I go into more detail, however during winter of 2017, I withdrew from school with the intention to resolve issues in health. I developed issues with insomnia in the Fall 2016 term, which led to issues in anxiety and focus. The decision to withdraw from school was very difficult, yet it was critical for the future of my academic success and, more importantly, my health. With that said, I missed the deadline and lacked the proper research and guidance for an appeal. I am now ready to continue my academic endeavors, and the appeal is crucial to have my transcript reflect who I am as a student. Please find attached the same letter from my doctor I provided in my other appeal, which talks about the issues previously mentioned.
