Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Studies),
My name is Vinothini Varnarajan (06342050) and I am currently a 3rd year student in the HLTH-M-BAH plan.
The Request:
I am appealing to late drop FILM360 (Summer 2014) without academic penalty due to extenuating health circumstances outside of my control.
Explanation of Extenuating Circumstances:
During the beginning of the Summer 2014 semester, I had hurt my back severely which prevented me from participating in the courses in which I was enrolled. During the May-July term of Summer 2014, I was enrolled in PSYC100, which I had dropped as I was not able to participate in the course and complete it successfully. As I began to recover, I felt I would be able to complete the FILM360 course in which I was enrolled during the July-August term. Unfortunately, I re-injured my back and much worse this time, and again I was unable to neither participate nor complete the course. My injury was more severe and I was unable to neither follow nor meet the deadlines outlined for the summer semester, and I therefore missed the deadline for final drop date. I was in extreme pain at the time, focusing on my recovery and coupled with other health concerns I also cope with (as a student registered with the Disability Services Office), it became very overwhelming and stressful.
Reason for Late Drop:
As I was unable to complete the course and drop the course by the deadline due to health issues outside of my control (outlined in the Off-Campus Medical Certificates attached), I hope to be approved to late drop the course, FILM360 from the Summer 2014 semester.
Plan for Future:
I have consulted with a health-care professional and we worked together to ensure I am fully recovered and ways to prevent any future injuries from occurring. This will allow me to refocus my efforts on my academics going into the 2014-15 academic year and continue to excel as I have, prior to the injuries this summer.
