Petition Letter: September 28, 2014.

Dear Associate Dean (Studies),

My name is Kaelyn Suh and I am going into my third year of studies at Queen's University in Bachelor of Computing (Honours) Program, Specializing in Software Design. I am requesting an appeal to drop CISC 260, weighted 3.0 credits that was offered in Winter 2014.

I had initially deferred my Winter 2014 exams due to illness. Although I had managed to write my other exams, I have made the decision to put off CISC 260 until September in hopes of taking the time to recover. Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances I was unable to write the exam altogether.

During the first week of August I was informed that I had to work later than my contracted date due to unforeseen events. When I had found out, I was overwhelmed with the stress and anxiety of not making it to the exam. I was in complete distress and my illness worsened during that time. I ended up working from June 9 to September 5, 2014.

Due to this over-working situation, I was under a very tight time constraint to rush back to Kingston in time for my exam. Though I would have normally taken the 27-hour drive from Winnipeg to Kingston over the course of 4 days, I ended up rushing back over three days instead. Not only was I unable to make it to the exam for September 8th, 2014, I was in physical and psychological distress.

If this appeal were to be granted I would retake CISC 260 this upcoming Winter 2015 and am certain that I would do excel. I will not be working during the school year and therefore will not be any added stress to interfere with the school work. My GPA has been improving since I have been required to withdraw for one year, and I have not had any failures since 2011. I also plan on checking up with Dr. Lacoursier on a regular basis since this is an ongoing illness, as well as seeking for additional help, knowing that services such as counselling with the Health, Counselling and Disability Services are available.
