I am appealing to drop 4 classes from the fall semester of the 2017-2018 school year. These classes are PHIL 373, PHIL 273, LLCU 111, and LLCU 319. Throughout the term I had been struggling with mental health issues that had held me back from my potential as a student. I had difficulties when it came to reading comprehension and in-class comprehension. Combined with lack of sleep it had made going to class a daily struggle that I had eventually given up hoping that one day it would work itself out and I would snap out of it.
There were issues when it came to visit my family doctor back home because of lack of transportation. This caused me to delay treatment, which in turn furthered delayed my schooling. I had fallen behind to the point where it would have been improbable that I would have been able to catch up even if I had not been struggling with my own mental health.
The problems I had been facing did not improve until I began treatment through the Student Health Services at Queen¿¿s. I went in out of desperation and was given an appointment within two days to meet with Nurse Kelly Mannen and within a week to meet Dr. Stephanie Butt. Nurse Mannen had begun working with me on how to regain my motivation and on coping mechanism when it came to my depression. Dr. Butt had assessed my mood and asked many questions regarding my mental state and had concluded that my medication needed to be changed immediately. With both working congruently I had ended the term in a better state, but it had already been too late to regain my footing in the classes I had been taking.
As the new semester rolls along I have been utilizing the skills that Nurse Mannen has been teaching and have been visiting her regularly. I have also taken her advice and have kept in touch with all my professors. I changed my course load to work with my job¿¿s schedule. I am proud to say that I am now ahead in all my readings and assignments. Both Nurse Mannen and Dr. Butt have agreed that they are proud of my turn-around in the new semester and that they are confident in the progress that I have made.
Sincerely,
Chancelor Maracle
