Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Throughout the first semester, I had suffered from a lease that did not work out - where I had signed a lease to share a room with another student for a cheap price but found out later that the room could not accommodate a second person and I had to live in a living room or move out. Every attempts made to switch into another place was unsuccessful as I had signed a legally binding lease and was required to still pay all the rent, and I could not afford to pay double rent. I suffered through flu and frequent asthma attacks from September while sleeping and living in the cold and dusty living room. I still tried to sustain myself by putting thick layers on and wearing mask at home, but it only got worse to the point my asthma attack coupled with migraine attack (which I haven't had since high school) one morning disabled me from going to write my midterm. In November, I decided to move out to my friends¿¿ houses; from then, I lived moving around two friends¿¿ houses. Especially towards the second half of the semester, I struggled hard to focus on anything other than worrying where I should sleep, and trying not to cause inconvenience to friends who had to be uncomfortable because of me; I put all my effort into affording a place to live. Although I have also gone through a family accident (my mother was hospitalized from car accident), this housing conflict affected me far more significantly both physically and psychologically.

I went home for Christmas both physically and psychologically depressed/exhausted - I got to see my mother and other family members whom I told everything that has happened to - they helped me recover psychologically and also helped me resolve the issue. When I came back, I went to talk to the housing coordinator and have resolved the rent situation with previous housemates and have found a winter sublet (with my own room). I am also healed and ready to start this semester fresh.
