Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern:
I am submitting this appeal/request to drop PHAR 340, and an aegrotat for BMED 380 for the Case Study: Report 2 which I was unable to submit during Semester 1 of 2017/18, as I have been under an inordinate amount of stress. In fact, it has been so severe that I required assistance in writing this letter.
Core relationships in my life are my main support system. They help me to focus and to feel confident. Around late summer/early September 2017 one of those relationships started to fracture. It worsened, and escalated around early October to a point of total breakdown. This splintered relationship has caused me several health issues.
The loss of this important relationship triggered my anxiety of which I have a history dating back to high school at which time I was receiving medical attention to manage my anxiety. I have had difficulty sleeping. When I can sleep, it is at odd hours and for short periods. I have lost my appetite, and have difficulty eating. I am unable to focus on studies, and have difficulty completing sentences. I am nervous, lack confidence, and am impatient with others. My depression is so severe that I spend most of my time in isolation, opting not to be in the company of anyone. I feel like this situation has destroyed me, and that I am existing in survival mode. It has become utterly devastating. People who know me well have commented on how poorly I look. My face broke out in acne.
To compound my situation, the house we are renting was flooded (due to faulty piping) around early November 2018. My depression worsened with the loss of my personal belonging, being cold and wet, and trying to clean up the water. I missed multiple classes throughout this semester for both courses. Going into the exam, most of my exam was an accumulation of a mid-term and a written assignment. Due to the issues above-discussed, I was unable to achieve focus and was only able to study throughout the night before the mid-term which resulted in a grade in the low- 50s on my mid-term. The written assignment was due at midnight and I was unable to start until 6:00 the same evening. Since I missed so many classes, I did not amass enough knowledge on the subject matter that writing the final exam would be pointless.
Additionally, I was unable to submit a major assignment in BMED 380 that was worth 20 of my grade. My marks were suffering across-the-board, which just added to my depression. In retrospect, I¿¿m uncertain if I couldn¿¿t focus on completing assignments because I was apathetic, or depressed, or both. I was, and am, experiencing a total inability to function, and am feeling severely overwhelmed with studies.
Since I did not have to attend classes in BMED 380, I did find it more manageable to achieve the course expected standards for a period. However, one week before the exam, everything came crashing down and I was unable to mentally focus, or function. Even with the aid of Health Services and delaying exams, I was unable to function in general. Eating and sleeping were difficult, and my grade dropped from a low 90 to a low 70. My declining grade was disheartening and also added to my mounting anxiety.
I would greatly appreciate if you could allow me to drop PHAR 340, and to obtain an aegrotat for BMED 380, as I am hopeful it will ease some of my stress, and help me to deal with my health issues while managing my other courses.
Thank you for your kind consideration.
Respectfully yours,

Eric Dunsworth
