Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am appealing the deadline to add PACT P01 (Winter 2018). I am appealing this process due to the confusion surrounding Camp School PACT 338 prerequisite. The School of Kinesiology and Health Studies states that the PACT P01 course is a prerequisite course for Fall Camp School. Students must exhibit a technical proficiency in front crawl, elementary back stroke, side stroke, breast stroke, shallow dive, front dive from one¿metre board, survival swimming, rescue, and resuscitation. Students may meet this requirement by producing current swimming qualifications at the RLSS Bronze Medallion level, or by passing the swim test. I have my National Lifesaving Society (NLS) certification. I have spoken with the professor of the course Bill Sparrow, and the Chair of the Undergrad for the SKHS Anna Van Der Meulen, who has both given the support to appeal the process to add a course. My NLS certification has been approved by the aquatics direction at Queens, and has approved my exemption from the swim test, which would give me a passing grade in PACT P01 ¿¿ pending a successful appeal to be registered in the course. I hope that my appealing process to add PACT P01 will be put into consideration allowing me to attend camp school (PACT 338), as I believe this course could have a significant impact on my future career in outdoor education.
