Petition Letter: Queen's University - Letter of Appeal

Dr. Johanne Bénard
Associate Dean (Studies)
Student Services, First Floor Dunning Hall

Dear Dr. Bénard,

Request¿¿
I am requesting an appeal to drop the following courses from the fall term that I was unable to complete: RELS 326, RELS 331, ENGL 100, PSYC 100 and an extension on RELS 201, RELS 240.

I would also like to appeal to drop the following courses for the current winter term: RELS 163, RELS 255, RELS 301, RELS 341 and an extension on RELS 255, WRIT 240

Explanation of Extenuating Circumstances
¿¿I have unfortunately been dealing with some personal family matters that are beyond my control which have directly affected m academic performance. Since Christmas, I have had a physical illness, a psychological challenge and several family related problems. I have been dealing with these stressors as well as attending various appointments with a lawyer, family and children¿¿s services worker, my daughter¿¿s school administration team, my daughter¿¿s doctor and various medical appointments, Kingston Police, and anyone else that I am instructed to speak with. During the fall term, my eldest son attempted suicide and was hospitalized, I spent as much time with him as I was able to. During the winter term, my daughter disclosed that she has been sexually molested by her brother, both who my ex husband and I spend 50 time with. With the various agencies involved, I have had many meetings set up for each week and the two have been separated at all times over the past several weeks. My youngest children involved are 6 and 12 years old.

Future Plan
¿¿If my appeal is granted, I would like to retake some courses throughout the summer months. I have met with student services and an academic advisor who have guided me through this process. I am on a leave from my work currently, and have requested to extend it for another year so that I can complete my studies on a full-time basis again, starting in September 2018. I am a mature student and my goal is to complete by BA, this has been a long-term goal I have held and have been very distraught with the idea of not being able to reach it. I plan to take some on-line courses during the summer months in order to get back into a routine and have the ability to drop off and pick up my daughter from camps. ¿¿

Sincerely yours
¿¿¿¿¿¿Lindsay Rymerson¿¿
