Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I would like to appeal this grade for several reasons.
I began working on this essay two weeks earlier in order to receive support and advice from my TA. In order to succeed, I communicated with my TA through countless emails and phone calls as shown in the pictures I will attach. Multiple questions were asked in regard to grammar, structure, context, and writing style (as seen in the emails submitted). In doing so, I hoped that I would receive as much feedback as possible in order to do well on this assignment.
Additionally, my TA offered to help by reviewing a rough draft of half my essay and the full rough structure of my essay. I received a lot of feedback and made the necessary changes.Additionally, I was given permission by him to use one extra source in my essay (as seen in the emails submitted).
My final draft was written taking into account the specific criticism and comments my TA said he was looking for. His input had a large impact on how I decided to compose the essay. Furthermore, I had several others edit the essay to improve my clarity and explanations. Countless hours of work were put into this essay and all feedback was taken into account, which led me to feel confident in submitting my essay.
When I received the essay back, I got a C. This was incredibly frustrating, and upon reading the feedback, I found the mark wasn't entirely justified.
The main feedback I received was regarding formatting and in-text citations, which I understand. Moreover, he also never stated in the first round of feedback that there was a mistake in my citing, but in his email to me explain why I lost so many marks, he stated I had made countless citing mistakes. In the future, I will make sure that my sources will be organized and my information properly structured; however, I do not think these account for such a low mark.
In regards to the other minor comments made within the margins, I found a specific comment was blown out of proportion. I am specifically referring to the comment I made comparing residential syndrome to PTSD. In comparing them, I hoped to help the reader better understand what the syndrome was. I recognized that I should have supported my claim by adding additional information; however, the comments made regarding this brief comment were entirely unjustified. I never stated that PTSD is a biological disease and I also took a course on clinical psychological and know that PTSD is not a biological disease.
In general, I felt frustrated by the overall lack of clarity in feedback, as well as not having an actual rubric. I truly believe that my work deserves a re-grade.
