Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am a Second-Year international student from South Korea. At the end of my First-Year, my family had a discussion and I heard how tuition fee is a huge pressure on my family. This pressure turned into my mental stress and I suffered from lose of focus, exceeding worries of future, and depression. This caused irregular everyday life cycle such as reversed sleeping pattern. Also, I took a break for one semester because I was originally planning to serve military back in my home country (later, we changed the plan and decided to focus on study first). This break reduced my choice for course schedule for Winter term and I had to take some of the courses to catch up original course plan. Then, I found that some Third-Year level courses I am taking have related Second-Year courses that helps student to understand the Third-Year course materials more easily. Since I did not take some of the courses during Fall term, because I took a break, things were a bit difficult to follow. However, I thought there is no way but to catch up as best as I could because I believed that dropping courses would be waste of time, delay of graduation, and more pressure to my family. Then, I missed the deadline for dropping courses without any financial or academic penalty. Unfortunately, things did not get any better. I have been having troubles with time management because of mental stress and feel like failing 23 courses. Many assignments are either unsubmitted or overdue, I have totally failed a midterm-exam for Phonology, and I lost track of some course materials because I missed many courses due to reversed sleeping pattern. Therefore, I am writing this letter to drop some courses that I certainly failed so that I can have chance to do better later in the future.
