Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am requesting the appeal for a CR(Credit standing) for my Bio-calculus course (Math 121 first year). The extenuating circumstances that were beyond my control involved biological impairment to my visual system. This was an issue I was not aware of until it was brought to my attention during a yearly physical my eyes and brain do not work together very well in simplicity. I am getting therapy in the summer to resolve this situation.(The documentation is with my accommodations counselor at queens university who I was assigned to when I was diagnosed with my impairment). I asked for retroactive accommodations from the math department and was denied. My other courses agreed on helping me such as not counting my first-semester exam and making my final worth more. This was done as I was given glasses which contain a prism that helps me. This, however, is just a band-aid on the issue and prolongs the amount of time before my eyes stop working and interpreting the meaning of what I read. My Math 121 mark is a D from the first semester and since I was not offered retroactive accommodations it is impossible to raise this grade and is severely impacting my GPA negatively. After being given accommodations I received two math tests after which were not formatted to my needs either as I discussed with my accommodations officer such as font size.

I would appreciate if my mark, once you have my passing grade for math 121, would be CR'd (still receive credit but does not go into my GPA). As this grade I currently have and the lack of help from the department will make it impossible to get my grade to somewhere that reflects how I can actually function.

All of the documentation is with the Queen's university accommodation unit which includes a printed version my doctor typed up for my diagnosis which includes the exact date of reading week when I was diagnosed. With this timeline in the light, I did over half a course impaired and had to wait two weeks for my glasses, giving me a few weeks before exams.
