Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean of Studies,
Queens University
My name is Yael, student ID 10209220.
This is an appeal for having a grade F removed from my university record. That grade stands for a course I did not complete back in 2015, during a time I suspected I was growing ill with cancer. At that time, I took my concerns to the doctors, who dismissed it as ¿being nothing¿¿. However, I was feeling unwell and affected by what I knew was not looking good. I withdrew from my activities and traveled to my home country to rest and visit family. Shortly after my return to Canada I saw my doctor again who finally agreed to send me to a specialist. Within a few months I had a biopsy done and was diagnosed with skin cancer. The reason that it took me all this time to address the grade issue was that at the time I was preoccupied with the implications of my situation and it was not until after the following year in which I endured repeated surgeries, procedures, and hospital follow- ups that I returned to Queens and resumed my studies, with renewed interest and motivation. I am enjoying my studies and am doing well, hoping to start on campus as of next year and advance in academic courses.
Please consider my request and thank you in advance,
Sincerely,
Yael Schechter

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: I am planing on keeping with part-time studying, and planing on continuing with on-line courses until I have enough credits accumulated to transfer to campus. I am still in treatment and in high risk and as long as this is so the best thing for me is to proceed without too much pressure. I have also submitted an appeal to Queens, on the advice of my academic advisor, to take one or two in-class courses with the english department, with the encouragement and permission of the instructor. she was impressed with my ability and thought that both myself and the class can benefit from this. I am hoping this will be granted, as I enjoyed her teaching tremendously and it is a positive motivator for me.

Amendment to Appeal 4475
Relevant Petition: 4475
New Information: Hello,
My name is Yael. This is an appeal to have a grade F removed from my university record. That grade stands for a course I did not complete back in 2015, during a time I suspected I was growing ill with cancer. During the time of my studies I saw multiple doctors, who unfortunately dismissed my complains as 'being nothing'. However, I felt unwell and was in great anguish by what i knew was not looking good. I withdrew from my activities and traveled to my home country to rest and spent time with family and friends. Shortly after my return I went back to see my doctor who finally agreed to send me to a specialist. i then had a biopsy done and diagnosed with skin cancer. Addressing the failed grade, as disappointed as I was from the experience, was neglected in the face of my crisis, as it took the best of me to handle my situation. It wasn't until the following year, after enduring multiple surgeries, procedures and repeated hospital follow ups that I returned to Queens and resumed my intentions. My studies played a significant part in my recovery phase. I have since taken a number of classes through the on-line option and hoping to move on campus as of next year, to advance towards more interesting and challenging academics.
Please consider my request and thank you in advance.
sincerely,
Yael.
