Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am appealing to drop Film 240 of winter 2017 off my official transcript. For medical reasons I will outline below I have not completed this coursework and do not want to have a failure on my transcript. I graduated from Queen¿¿s in spring 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. However, I had originally planned to graduate with an honours degree and therefore, I decided to take the extra course Film 240 in my final year to meet the requirements.
However, throughout my time at Queen¿¿s I consistently was struggling with generalized anxiety and was receiving professional support. As a result of the heavy course load of six courses I began to feel increasingly overwhelmed, anxious and under an immense amount of stress. My anxiety began to be paralyzing and as a result I reached out to Dr. Matrix and requested an extension on the remaining two assignments. I was given an extension by Dr. Matrix until May 01 2018 to complete the course. I have attached this email for your review as well as documentation of my mental health.
However, my anxiety has been a continuous struggle since I have been home from Queen¿¿s. As a result, I have been focusing on my anxiety and stability with a therapist and a psychiatrist and I was not in a position to complete the assignments. This has been challenging and at this point I have been advised to appeal to have this course removed to avoid the risk of further emotional distress and receiving an F on my transcript. I am currently working with a career counsellor to plan my future education and to build on my undergraduate studies, and do hope to be in a position to do graduate studies in the future. I recognize the importance of a strong transcript and having this F removed. I continuously pushed myself during my undergraduate studies at Queen¿¿s and worked hard to graduate.
I value my degree from Queen¿¿s University and the education I received. I have needed this year to focus on my mental health and I hope that you can understand my position at this time. I have always been a consciousness student and feel uneasy writing this letter, however under the circumstances I would feel a lot more settled if the F was removed from my official transcript. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Alexa Stein
