Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am writing to request aegrotat standing in HIST295. Over the past year I have had to deal with a number of really difficult circumstances, both personal and involving my family. It all started last summer. The reason I am only appealing for this course is because I do not have much experience with art courses, especially history courses. I was still, somewhat, able to manage with my other courses at the time but with this history course, the assignments were worth a lot, and I felt a lot of pressure not to fail the course. This resulted in my anxiety increasing quite severely. My anxiety caused some physical symptoms and I had to see multiple doctors. I missed some school as a result.
I had originally discussed with Professor Dueck to have an incomplete standing in the course and finish the coursework in the winter term. I tried very hard to get this work finished but I could not because the issues keep coming back up. There were some new issues as well.
I have been trying my best to keep up with my academics but this situation is reflected in my grades for the winter term. In regards to my depression and anxiety, I have been attending counseling to better cope with my state of being and am even going to take further psychiatric therapy in the fall. Ms. Lotan has been meeting with me as well.
