Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern:¿¿¿¿Hello, ¿¿¿¿My name is Ricardo Carranza and I am a 4th year student at Queens University. Throughout my university career I have continued to explore various courses offered at the university, which have helped me plan a road map to a career I wish to peruse, law school. In the 2018 winter term, I chose to take an ergonomics class (KNPE 450) because before I concluded on what I wanted to do in the future, I figured I would attempt to become a kinesiologist. To become a kinesiologist an ergonomics class was required. I have always struggled with mathematics but was willing to take this challenge to pursue a career in kinesiology. At the beginning of the year I was diagnosed with ADHD and was on a lot of testing trials to figure out the perfect dose of medication for my condition. I was told that this course was a kinesiology course and an engineering course which worried me, but didn¿¿t push me away from taking it. I found out after the deadline to drop the class that this course was more tailored to the engineers as we were required to use complex computer programs and complex formulas to figure out problems to do with ergonomics. Since I have struggled with math my whole life I found it very hard to attempt to re-learn mathematics, apply mathematics and use complicated computer programs all while adapting to my new medication. This caused me to become very frustrated with myself and I started to become very anxious. To add, I was working a part-time job three times a week to ensure I could afford rent, utilities, food, internet etc. My financial situation has always been difficult because I come from a family of eight which forces my parents to work hard to support all of us. They are loving parents and supported me the whole way through university, which I am very appreciative for, but when it came down to financial assistance I found my-self buried in student loans, credit cards and OSAP. Due to this financial burden, adapting to my new medication, and balancing four other classes and a social life, my mental health started to weaken and I had lost all hope in this ergonomics class. I wish to appeal this course because I feel it is not a true representation of my academic abilities, especially when trying to get into law school. Trying to adapt to a new medication, stressing money throughout my whole semester and not being mentally stable because of these things combined, has directly impacted my grade in this ergonomics class. I did well in all four of my other classes within the 2018 winter semester which prove that I truly try my hardest in all my courses. When it came down to a course that was heavily mathematical and out of my comfort zone, it created a whirlwind of stress and anxiety especially as I was trying to make sense of my condition. For the reasons mentioned in this letter I wish to move on from this course and continue my journey to law school.¿¿¿¿Thank you very much for reading this appeal letter,¿¿Kind Regards,
