Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I would like to appeal for my grade in MATH121 to become a credit standing for two reasons, the status of my parent's relationship and because it does not reflect the true nature of my academic efforts for the year.
Throughout the semester I experienced a tremendous amount of stress and a phase of depression due to the status of my parent's relationship. Due to my father's impending move to China and my grandfather's poor health I had to deal with a lot of conflict and stress throughout the academic year which resulted in me having to prioritize my core ECON courses.
This situation was very difficult for me due to me being an international student and does not reflect my efforts/academic standing from my other courses throughout the Fall/Winter semesters. I did not reach out to any of the services provided by Queen's due to being uncomfortable to talk to a stranger about my parent's relationship but instead sought support from my friends, any of which would be happy to provide a statement about my situation.
Being a person who likes to challenge themselves, I initially took the course because I thought it was necessary to complete my degree but to find out that I had already completed the credit in first year. Nevertheless, I still took on the course despite it being more of an elective, but as previously mentioned, was not able to accommodate the necessary amount of time and practice due to my mental health and family status.
Being an international student, It is vital that I have a decent transcript for my final years of university to further continue studying/living in Canada therefore I hope you can consider my appeal for a credit standing in MATH121.
