Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To Arts and Sciences Associate Dean

1. The Request:
I am appealing the Faculty¿¿s decision that I must withdraw from Queen¿¿s for a minimum of one year.
2. Explanation of Extenuating Circumstances:
Looking for my past two years marks, I did poorly for the first year. I overestimated the workload and decided to take majority of the core courses all at once. However, for the second year my GPA raised gradually, even though I had a heavy load of courses, however, I did not want the same result, therefore, I made some decisions of which to drop. The result was positive, and I did boost my GPA . For the winter semester, instead of all the core courses I took one of elective that I think I will be able to manage and I got a B (Geol 106)

I also want to explain the CISC 124 failure. CISC 124 is the heaviest course of the four, and I always asked the TA for help. However, CISC 124 is a course in which if you fail the final, you will fail the course. I was going into the exam with at least a B. I had an average A on the assignments and at least C or above on the quizzes and the weight of them are the same. During the exam season I had a severe flu that included constantly having a high temperature and muscle pain. I went to the school student wellness centre for help, and they told me it is up to me to attend the final, and since I just want to get the final over, I went in to my first exam which is Geol, and again I did pretty okay. But I was still ill, that¿¿s one of the reason that got me fail for the next exam. There¿¿s only two days gap from Geol to Cisc 124.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: I am currently taking three courses for summer, I am working at the school library, therefore, I will at the library majority of summer time, either working or studying.
Two of the courses that I am taking are from previous year, therefore, I am familiar with the content and I will manage to do well. One of the course is the second year math core course, I think I will switch to a elective course that has no final exam, which gives me only two exam two prepare for. I will raise my GPA to the requirement of 1.6. I am hoping not withdraw from the school. The third year coming up I will plan ahead what to take and take a comfortable load of courses and learn from the mistakes that I made previous two years. I am familiar with all the help from school, I will also look into that when I needed.
