Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am appealing my grade for a credit standing in Econ 390 due to numerous coinciding factors.
Primarily, over the course of the winter, my grandfather got very stick and it resulted in me succumbing to a serious depression. I spent many days travelling back and forth to Toronto to visit family but found it eat, sleep, or go outside. I spend many nights with suicidal thoughts and spend hours on the phone with representatives from Good2Talk. This confidential helpline helped me immensely and helped me get through a full recovery halfway through the semester. Fortunately, I have built a support group and do not think this will affect me in the future.
While many of my classes and professors gave me online materials and class slides to learn/catch up, Professor Hartwick and the ECON 390 curriculum had limited online material, with none of it being relevant to the midterm or final examination.
The lack of online material hurt my performance as I was not able to attend class due to the mental health issues I was facing in the winter semester and the fact that I have a learning disability that makes it difficult for me to learn in an environment when no supplementary slides are provided. I have spent a lot of time with the learning centre to get accommodations for my classes so I can thrive at university; however, despite asking many times, Professor Hartwick would not give me online materials. I have not had this problem before, but the lack of accommodations even with my sufficient documentation and the depression from family sickness resulted in a poor performance which is not indicative of what I could have achieved in full health.
I have attached my learning disability documentation; however, as Good2Talk is a confidential line there is no documentation. If you would like, please contact me and I can provide you with phone records.
I appreciate your consideration for a credit standing.
Thank you.
