Petition Letter: Dear all,
I am asking to appeal my DRAM 242 final mark, which was an F. I am requesting to drop this class after the add/drop deadline. I did not complete any of the three assigned course assignments which made up the grade breakdown for the class, so was anticipating an IN rather than an F in the class. There were several factors preventing me from completing the course. Firstly, I found that, with my extra-curriculars and student job, 5 courses was too much for me to keep a handle on this semester. I have been struggling with school and am in the process of being assessed for a learning disability, and found that with all of this, the course was not manageable for me this semester. I planned on dropping the course however missed the course deadline by a couple of days, and at that point, I emailed the professor, Adair Redish, asking what I could possibly do to make up the work and assignments I had missed, and still complete the course. I did not receive a response from my professor, and at that point had missed too many assignments to still pass the course, but had also missed the drop deadline for the course. I decided that I needed to focus more of my efforts on the other four courses I was enrolled in this semester, as they pertain directly to my environmental science major. And although this Drama 242 course was contributing to my Drama minor, I have decided to drop my Drama minor and solely focus my efforts on completing my ENSC major degree. With the knowledge that I was to be dropping my Drama minor, and the fact that this class would not contribute towards my degree and my future plans, I unfortunately neglected the course with the intention of dropping it, and once I realized that it was too late to drop the course, it was too far gone to recover my status in the class and pass the course. I am quite worried that the F grade on my transcript will impact my ability to get into a Graduate program for Marine Sciences. I apologize for not being more on top of the deadlines and realizing when the drop deadline was for winter semester courses, however I would hate for a mistake like this to impact my future studies and career path. Thank you in advance for listening to my appeal.
