Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Towards the end of the 2017 Fall semester, in November, I lost a dear friend in Dubai in a car accident. At the time I was shocked by this news and I did not know any means of dealing with this loss. As a result of this, my academic performance was greatly affected as I was not able to attend many of my lectures. Frequent migraines, insomnia and nausea prevented me from participating in class activities and group assignments, as I grew continuously ill. As a result of this, I was missing notes and lacked knowledge from class discussions. I tried to attend as many lectures as I could, however, it was not enough. I did not consult a doctor, I only used medicine available to me. At the time, I received some comfort from another close friend who was able to attend her funeral and I continue to receive support from my family.

Since I am home for the summer, I have had enough time to talk to those who were with her. This has brought me much comfort and closure. I will take this time to mourn and heal and I strongly believe that this will not take away from my academics any further.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: After careful planning and advise from an academic advisor at Queens, I have decided on a few changes to my academic plan. This plan includes switching from an Honours program to a General program in Art History. This will put me back on track to graduate by April 2019. This will also decrease my course load to four courses a term, which will approximately add up to 12 hours a week. I plan to speak with an academic advisor again to gain more knowledge about my path and continually keep myself in check every step of the way. I am still very motivated to complete my studies and achieve my academic goals. The career path I have chosen will require additional academic training and I plan to succeed in the required academics.
