Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am appealing to drop ECON 111 (Fall, 2017) as I have been through a transition from my home country to Canada as an upper year transfer student and some mental issues had affected me to concentrate on my study at the beginning.

I believe that part of the reasons why I mostly failed in ECON 111(Fall, 2017) is because I underestimate how hard it is and put more focus on the courses in my major plan like LING and JAPN, etc. During the summertime, I get enrolled in FREN 106 and hope to retake MATH 111B again in the future in order to raise my GPA back.

There are also several reasons why some psychological problems affected me during the fall session. Upon my first experience as a student in Canada in the first semester, I found that there are a lot more things to get adjusted to than before. Some poor time management and forgetfulness occurred when I am trying to focus on one subject and easy to get tired. Along with depression and anxiety that bothering me I got some serious insomnia symptoms that stopped me from catching up with dues and being a student.

Under that circumstance, I have gone to the counselling service and talked with Dr Arunima Khanna 3 times in the fall semester and tried to get myself back on track. She gave me some help on my lack of sleep and my psychological state and signed me up a peer academic advising program later on. I have also sought help in the walk-in clinic outside the campus. Now I think I am getting much better than last year and my insomnia barely happened again.

If my appeal gets granted I would maintain regular meetings with an academic advisor to work out obstacles and to ensure everything is going well. If some mental issues happened again I will go to the counselling service or other medical professional again before anything is getting worse.
