Re: Appealing Academic Status
This is a formal request to appeal my requirement to withdraw for one year from the faculty of Arts and Science due to my academic performance thus far.
In speaking with academic advisor Ms. Spring on May 8th, I was advised that I should appeal to request the courses that I failed to be dropped from my record. These classes include MATH-121 FW17/18 and ECON 240. I am appealing to have these courses dropped for the following reasons:
¿¿ Test and Exam anxieties
¿¿ Did not submit my IEP to support my learning profile
¿¿ No confirmation from my professor of my academic marks leading up to the exams
¿¿ Grades before exams
Test and Exam Anxieties
During my exams I experience heightened stress, indecision, panic, confusion and resulting in my inability to successfully complete the exam or test to my best ability in the time allotted. These anxieties are confirmed in my IEP, confirmation of my disability from my physician.
Did not submit my IEP to support my learning profile
For the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 academic years my IEP was not provided to the university. This prevented me from benefiting from the strategies available from the Queens Student Accessibility Services (QSAS) which would in all likelihood improved my learning outcomes.
As identified above my IEP has been provided to QSAS with the conformation of disability from my physician. As a result, QSAS has provided a Letter of Accommodation detailing the accommodations available to me during my summer term courses.
No confirmation from my professor of my academic marks leading up to the exams
MATH 121
Leading up to my MATH-121 exam in April 2018 I repeatedly requested my course marks to help me prepare for the exam. The marks on individual test were slow to be provided and the marks for the In-Term Test 5 were not provided until the exam was provided.
¿¿ Wrote test 4 on Feb 4th 2018 received grades on April 11th 2018
¿¿ Wrote test 5 on Mar 7th 2018 received grades on April 19th 2018
¿¿ Wrote test 6 on Mar 27th 2018received grades on April 14th 2018
¿¿ Wrote exam on April 16th 2018
Furthermore, my marks for the Live Session component of the course were also not provided until after the exam.
Without this information I was handicapped in preparing for the exam. I was not aware the units in which I was strong and which units I needed to improve. In addition, this caused my anxieties to increase and prevented me from being able to focus and effectively prepare for the exam.
ECON 240
The midterm I wrote on February 6th 2018 was marked and made available for us to pick up. On March 27th 2018 we were required to return the midterms by April 5th 2018 because there was an error with recording the grades. While there was no subsequent notice for the midterm to be available again, I did attempt to pick up the midterm multiple times over the course of the week leading up to the exam, the offices were either closed or I encountered a lineup requiring a wait of approximately an hour. I was concerned with loosing that time in my preparation for the exam and was never able to pick up my midterm results.
Documentation
I have already submitted my Student Accessibility documentation that was required by my physician.
I am presently enrolled in MATH-121 and CLST-205 for the summer term. The average thus far from received grades for MATH-121 is 94 and CLST-205 A+. My successful completion for these courses will address my failed grade in the 2017-2018 year and improve my overall GPA above the threshold of 0.70.
If my appeal to drop the courses is not approved, at least waive the requirement for me to withdraw for one year and return to my studies in September and implement the academic plan detailed above.
In closing, I hope that my appeal information and academic plan allows me to return to my studies in the fall. When I first started in the fall of 2016 I was curious and interested in pursuing studies in economics. Over the past 2 years my interest in economics has grown. I remain committed to successfully completing my studies at Queens University in the faculty of Arts in Science.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: Academic Plan
If permitted to return in September of 2018 the following details my academic plan to improve my learning outcomes and to improve and to maintain my GPA to an acceptable level. As you can see bellow, some of these steps have already been put in place and others will be actioned more completely when I return in September.
IEP
I have already submitted IEP for accommodation to the university to support my summer term courses. In addition, if permitted to return in September of 2018, I will continue to use my IEP to support my ability to succeed.
QSAS
My IEP and conformation of disability from my physician have been accepted by QSAS and I have received a letter of accommodation detailing the accommodation available to me for my summer term courses. If I am able to return in September of 2018 I will seek ongoing and frequent support through the Student Accessibility Services in order to best support my anxieties during tests and exams. I will implement ALL strategies provided by the coaching team. I will ensure to draw on my strengths and be transparent with my needs. I will disclose all pertinent information in order to obtain best learning outcomes.
