Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

My name is Braeden Wodehouse and I have just completed my first year at Queens University in the Arts program. I was reluctant to check my final grade marks as soon as they were posted for several reasons. The first being that I had no idea when they were going to be posted and the second being due to my very demanding and time-consuming summer job as a paving and landscape labourer working from 7am to 6pm on most days. I work in Pickering ON and live in Aurora, meaning that I have to wake up at around 5:30 every morning to make my 40 minute commute to work. I also had my junior baseball season start rather soon after the end of the school year, therefore the thought of getting on my computer and checking my grades quickly evaded my mind. I hadn¿¿t remembered to check my grades until a couple months later. When I did check my marks I was absolutely devastated, as I managed to fail my politics, drama, and psychology courses which were quite demanding courses. As surprised as I was, I can say with certainty that my poor academic performance was mainly due to a very large and serious legal altercation that occurred in March during the school year. Its a long story and id prefer not to disclose the entire incident in this letter however, as anyone could probably imagine, being my first offence this was a very detrimental event in my life and I am still currently fighting the case with my lawyer. I have provided all documentation and evidence of my incident in my previous appeal letter to receive a credit in the three courses, only to discover that that was not an option seeing as I cannot request a credit in a course that I have failed. I¿¿ve been trying to call academic appeal office several times now. It has been annoyingly difficult due to their hours of operation and their phone line hours, majority of the time I haven¿¿t been able to call is because I would be at work and try to find a short break whenever I could to get a hold of someone from the office.
