Dear Dr. Benard,
I am appealing the Faculty's decision that I must withdraw from the Major of Psychology program with the Department of Psychology. Due to my insufficient GPA in psychology courses and GPA between PSYC202 and PSYC203, my standing in the Major was understandably questioned. Due to extenuating circumstance, I am appealing for a credit standing in Psyc203 and a GPA repair for Psyc271 and Psyc236.
I truly believe that my previous grades were not a representation of what I am capable of academically and not a representation of me in general. During the time of my courses, I was experiencing unexpected extenuating circumstances, beyond my control, that have affected my ability to perform academically and responsibly. During my first year at Queen's I was diagnosed with Depression which continued and progressed during my second year. During the worst period of my condition, my academics and social relationships were severely affected as I did not leave my house to go to class or anywhere, I could not focus and concentrate on doing tasks and I would be unable to get up and do daily tasks that I would normally be able to do. I have been seeing health care professionals since and even before my diagnosis. I started with a health care physician at Student Wellness Centre who then referred me to Psychiatry in which I was seeing Dr. Anne Duffy regularly whilst seeing counselling at Student Wellness as well.
To my own surprise and as a result of the work of myself and all the people who have helped me, I have reached a much better place in my life. I genuinely feel that, due to being on the right medication and seeing a counsellor that fits with me well regularly, my condition is being handle and is at it's best currently. I intend to continue taking my mediation, seeing my counsellor and doing all the techniques that I have been taught to manage my depression and anxiety. I believe that I am ready to prove to you what I am capable of during the following years and thankfully, I am in a much better place to do that now. Please find the attached documentations from the healthcare professionals that have helped me and please accept this letter as my formal appeal.
Thank you,
Liveny Krishnakumar

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: Going Forward and Plan for Courses
Plan of What's in place moving forward:
-Being on the right medication (after multiple failed attempts, I have finally found one that works)
-Seeing Whitney or Laurie (counsellors from Student Wellness Centre) on a routine basis
-Seeking TA office hours when needed instead of being too anxious to go
-Walking to class with a housemate to be held accountable for going to class when feeling less than normal.
Plan for Courses:
My plan is to retake certain 200-level Psyc courses to better my GPA and then continue on with course requirements in the following year. I plan to manage my time better and place plans and be held accountable for my study habits and being able to focus. This is a basic plan for what courses I am looking into taking for the following years in addition to working for the Queen's Journal and volunteering with the Peer Support Centre.
Year 3:
-Psyc271, 236
-Psyc 333, 342
-Socy 275, 388, 384, 389
Year 4:
-Psyc 301, 302
-Psyc 351, 332, 353, 370
-Socy 305, 303
Year 5:
-501A/B
-Psyc 430, 442, 437, 436
Thank you for taking the time to look at my Plan moving forward and my appeal letter. I really appreciate everything and please let me know if you have any concerns or clarifications.
