Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean of Studies,

I am appealing to drop CALC121 (Summer, 2018) due to an extenuating circumstance beyond my control.
On June 30th at 12:30 am I was involved in a very rough car accident. I was driving straight on a road with no lights or stop signs on my end when a pizza delivery guy ran a stop sign and we collided. I lost consciousness at the scene and have little recollection of the accident other than waking up in the ambulance. The speed of the hit was around 50 km/h. I was alone in my car at the time of the incident. The crash resulted in both cars being totalled and unrepairable. I have been dealing with the insurance company (ICBC) my claim number is BB99717-0. This is an ongoing claim. The repercussions of the crash included several injuries including a fractured pinky. Firstly, I got whiplash and a minor concussion, the major symptoms from this is, dizziness, confusion, neck pain and stiffness, feeling fatigue, and extreme headaches/migraines. The second injury which has caused me a lot of problems is my back pain. I have severe back pain which especially gets worse during certain movements. These injuries have affected my daily life such as my sleep, relationships, commitments, work, comfort, fun. I have not attended my job since the incident. I attempted to study the first few days after the crash but it was extremely difficult to concentrate. I also am having troubles sitting down for long periods of time because of the back pain. My doctor has put me on pain killers and muscle relaxants. I have also been attending physiotherapy and massage therapy. My doctor explained to me that I will most likely be feeling these bad symptoms for another 3 weeks and then I may start to feel better if everything works out. The CALC121 course requires a lot of practice and attention which is unobtainable in my current state.
My future plan is keep going to physiotherapy and massage therapy until I feel completely healed as well as retake the course when I am able to.

Thank you for your time,
Maria Hervas
